Locanda Cipriani

Half an hour from Venice, lies the enchanted island of Torcello.

It was a refuge almost two thousand years ago for the Venetians who fled from the Barbarians.

In 1935, it was here that Giuseppe Cipriani, who was captivated by the beauty of the place, opened an inn which soon became famous all over the world. After Giuseppe, the management of the inn was taken over by his daughter Carla, then subsequently by her son, Bonifacio Brass.

The successive generations have not altered the inimitable style and class of the inn. As it is attested to by the many illustrious guests attracted yesterday as today by the unique hospitality: from Ernest Hemingway to Charlie Chaplin, from Paul Newman to the entire Royal Family of England.

With its simply decorated dining rooms and its garden full of flowers overlooking the cathedral of Torcello, the inn is surely one of the most romantic places anywhere to have lunch or dinner and taste the Cipriani’s traditional dishes.
